The Arkansas Korean War Veterans Memorial is a must see in central Arkansas. The Memorial is located in MacArthur Park, 503 East Ninth Street, Little Rock, next to the MacArthur Museum of Arkansas Military History, one block from the I-30 and 9th Street exit in Little Rock.

The names of 461 Arkansans killed in the Korean War are listed on beautiful black granite panels. The panels also contain interesting and informative information concerning the Korean War. The information panels surround impressive statues of seven foot tall combat soldiers and Korean children. The symbolism of the statues is explained on an information panel. A unique aspect of this Memorial is the fact that most of the money for the construction of the Memorial came from the Republic of Korea to honor the veterans that fought and died for their freedom. This is one of the most impressive Korean War Memorials in the United States. Take time to come, see, and learn more about the Korean War; it will be time well spent.

The new Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site Visitor Center opened in September 2007 to mark the 50th anniversary of the high school's desegregation, when nine African-American students entered the school under federal troop protection. In 1957 the school became a crucial battleground in the struggle for civil rights. The nation watched as the "Little Rock Nine" attempted to enter the previously all-white school. With the help of television news, then in its infancy, the events commanded worldwide attention. Dramatic images of the conflict, along with the school's facade, seared themselves into the public's memory. Little Rock came to symbolize the federal government's commitment to eliminating separate systems of education for blacks and whites.

Starting in Rwanda in 2003, LaDuke traveled the world sketching people and livestock at Heifer International project sites, where recipients learn self-reliance through animal agriculture. Each mural work is based on a sketch or sketches she made in the field. The paintings hang in the great hall in Heifer Village, site of a permanent educational exhibit on hunger and poverty.

The mural project is made up of more than 31 panels. Twenty-four of the panels will make up the “mural” portion of the series and hang on the 90-foot wall that runs through the center of the building. Seven others hang elsewhere throughout the center.

All the works are painted with bright acrylic colors on large plywood panels.
